Exercise Is Fun

You think I am kidding? I mean it. Believe me, I am no great fan of gyms, workouts, or any kind of organised sports activity. All the exercise do on a daily basis is a bit of Yoga. But I love walking which no one really considers to be an exercise as it comes naturally to all of us. My father introduced me and my siblings to the real joys of walking early in my life when, on weekends, he would take us kids out for long walks through woods and fields. He knew everything about the environment even back in the early 40's. He would tell us  names of every plant, bird or any living thing that we came across on our outings. This way he taught us to be observant of everything around us. We all became lovers of nature and we have kept the habit of walking till today. In those days we, of course, didn't know the benefits of this simple and good exercise, we were  just out to enjoy ourselves and our father's company. When our interest waned, he steered us to a lovely forest lodge where he treated us to root beer while he enjoyed the real thing. Then we headed home to mother's Sunday cooking.

Even though our diet in those days was old-style  calory-rich food, none of us became overweight and we have all kept our bodies fit and firm till today. None of us is a fitness freak either, so it must be the habit of walking - and cycling as an alternative - that keeps us in shape.

Walk daily, not the average 1000 steps that we all take following our daily routine, but at least half an hour dedicated to energetic walking. No time? Skip a few stops before you hop onto the bus or subway on your way to work or back home. Run your errants on foot instead of taking the car, and do take time off to walk   in your local park, in nature or even your neighborhood whenever you can spare the time. You will see so much more than when driving, work off tensions and fat and get to know more people and have an opportunity to exchange a few friendly words with them or even make new friends. Walking is an activity with too many benefits to give it a miss. It is a good body-toning exercise for all ages including toddlers and seniors. It burns fat, tones muscles and is great for your abs. For weightloss, walking is the ideal exercise.

For your daily walking exercise you do not need any special clothing. Comfortable outdoor clothing suiting the weather conditions are basically all that's needed. But you may want to invest in some comfortable footwear, rainwear etc., all of which you can buy online from the comfort of your home. Walking is a very rewarding exercise routine. It doesn' feel like exercise at all and can be pure fun.
